Projects
1970-1979 In 1970, the Lok family purchased their first motel, a 40-unit property in Santa Rosa, CA. and immediately began a complete refurbishment. A second phase of development added ten more units and new manager’s quarters. In 1977, the motel was sold to out-of-town investors, who retained the Lok's to manage the property for a two-year transition period.
1975-1990 In 1975, the Loks purchased their second motel, a 60-unit property located in Stockton, CA. The family purchased land adjoining the inn and from 1979-81 oversaw the construction of thirty additional units. With renovations and additions, the hotel was reflagged as a Comfort Inn and became one of the first to join the Choice Hotels International franchise in 1983. In 1990 the family sold the Comfort Inn in Stockton.
1984 - Present In 1984, the Lok family purchased a hotel development site in the northern boundary of the City of Petaluma, CA and began their first new hotel construction project. The project included ground up construction of the 110-unit hotel including four one-bedroom suits, a meeting room, outdoor swimming pool, hot tub, and sauna. In August of 1985, the Quality Inn-Petaluma opened for business. The hotel quickly achieved success and continues to this day to outperform the market and its competitive set as a consistent Choice Gold-Award winner.
1996 – Present Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Sebastopol, CA
In 1996, community leaders from the city of Sebastopol approached the Lok family and asked that they explore the feasibility of building a hotel in their community. A limited liability company was formed to capitalize the project and construction began on the 82-unit Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites in the summer of 1997, with the doors opening to guests in July of 1998. The hotel has been an Excellent Quality Performer in the Holiday Inn system since its first day of opening, with consistent ratings in the top 10% in Guest Satisfaction Scoring.
2000-2002 Sheraton Petaluma Hotel In 2000, the 18-month construction began on a full service hotel strategically located in southern Sonoma County, culminating in a targeted opening of the Sheraton Petaluma on June 1, 2002. Development of the 183-guestroom facility included 10,000 square feet of meeting space, a restaurant, lounge, exercise room, saunas, and outdoor swimming pool. The project required perseverance, sensitivity and finesse to move through political and government processes with a high barrier to entry and considerable community wariness.
Development efforts were recognized in national trade publications for the visionary installation of a comprehensive converged network infrastructure of next-generation technology with IP telephony, wireless Internet access, biometric time cards and computerized laundry systems.
January 2004 - December 2004Clarion Hotel near Cal Expo Sacramento, CA In January of 2004, the LOK Group secured the management contract for the Inn at the Oaks. Built in the 1960's as a roadside hotel on, what was then, the outskirts of Sacramento, the Inn has had multiple reincarnations in its colorful history. Formerly flagged as a Ramada Inn, the full service, 177-room hotel boasts 10,000 square feet of meeting space, a 5,000 square foot restaurant and lounge, all anchored by a landscaped interior courtyard with a swimming pool.
With an eye toward transforming the hotel into a profitable investment for Ownership, LOK Group took steps for immediate cost containment to improve operating efficiencies and worked closely with Ownership to develop strategies to enhance the asset's overall performance, business reputation, employee morale and curb-appeal.
In July of 2004 this property was welcomed into the Choice Hotels International family as a Clarion Hotel, coupled with a $2 million renovation program in place that will allow the asset to compete effectively in the market place and provide a valuable service to the Sacramento community.
